Karin Fox replied to Brett Schaeffer's discussion What's your must-read ed blog?
"Here's a school blog-ish site that I love reading: http://www.openlmn.net/ It features independent reporting of all Lower Merion SD meetings. It's very interesting...and sometimes enraging."

Karin Fox replied to Sarah Peterson's discussion Parents rally for school funding in Harrisburg next week
"They should know that if they cut the funding for these programs they will be responsible for creating thousands (millions?) of tax USERS rather than tax PAYERS! They should also know that, like penicillin, appropriate programming needs to be done…"

Karin Fox replied to Sarah Peterson's discussion ICJJ Report on the Luzerne County Scandal – What role should schools play?
"This is terrifying as long as the mandatory call to police is included in the bill. From DRNPA: SB 56 Requiring Schools to Report Student Behavior to Police This Bill will require school administrators to call the police to report certain student…"

Karin Fox replied to Sarah Peterson's discussion Tips for starting a discussion (and a question about Early Intervention)

Haha! Wow, this is getting weird! Yeah, GWU is great. I lived in Thurston too! Whoever had the idea of putting 1200 teenagers, with newly discovered freedom in one building is...crazy.
I'm in the Elliot School of International Affairs which is what I wanted to do when I applied to colleges. It's ironic though because the whole insane process of applying to colleges made me interested in public education in the first place! I also switched from public to private school during my early teen years and the difference really shocked me. ELC is where I get to learn the behind-the-scenes of public education. I am mostly just incredibly curious to learn, I'm not sure if I want to be a lawyer or not. What did you study there? I also love politics so being in D.C. is great.

The House is voting on the bill today. If you have time you can watch it here: http://www.house.state.pa.us/index.cfm
Just click on House Session Live and it should work.

Also you should check out SchoolVictories.org (we have a facebook page!). It's mostly for advocacy groups but it's cool to see what kind of groups are out there and they post their group's activities on the site too. Just another place to learn about all of this stuff.

I'm so glad to hear about the new principal. I feel like it's important to remember how many people there are who care deeply about children, their education, and any special needs they have, whether it be special ed or english language learners.

Have you heard about house bill 704? The house is voting on it this afternoon and I think you'd be really interested in it. We are extremely hopefull it will get passed; it would be such a victory. There is more information about it at this website: http://reformspecialedfunding.org/about/

I'm actually still attending college, I go to George Washington University but my home is in Philly so I'm here for the summer. Education Law Center is a really fantastic place, the people are amazing!
