Farewell

Today is my last day at the Education Law Center. Since November 3, 2010, I have learned a lot of new things. Brett Schaeffer and Connie Sung taught me office skills and the importance of the Education Law Center. I also learned more about the hard work of a mailing campaign, with Chris Gaffney and Janice Jackson. Brett and Connie introduced me to the Philadelphia Student Union, which is a youth group that works on a change in the Philadelphia public school system. Meeting them changed the…See More

What I'm Listening To!: "Glitter In The Air" by Pink

I have a friend name Tarajee, and we listen to the exact same music. So every time we hear a new song that we like, we would send a text message to one another with the artist and the name of the song. Friday night she sent me this song, and the moment I listened to it I fell in love. I love a song that says exactly what you feel, and this song did that.See More

It was about a young black girl named Pecola and her family during the 1940’s. Pecola and her family believed that they were all ugly, because of their dark skin. Pecola’s mother and father (Pauline and Cholly) had their own problems so most of the time they didn’t show her any attention or affection. Pecola thought that having…See More

In School - Favorite Teacher

My favorite teacher, I would have to say, is my current AP Honors English teacher Ms. Bhatt. She’s my favorite because she is a wonderful teacher. Ms. Bhatt pushes her students to be the best she knows they can be. If anyone is having problems or needs help during class, she is always there to support us. She does an excellent job preparing us for the PSSA and the SAT. Last year I didn’t have AP honors, I can remember always wanting to be in her class so bad that I would sneak in her class…See More

New Beginnings

Hello, my name is Cheyenne Andino. I’m in my junior year at West Philadelphia High School. I will be doing regular blog entries about education as far as what’s going on in my school, my college and career preparation and my extracurricular activities. Just for fun, I will post things like book reviews, my responses to current events and links to music I’ve been listening to. I’m currently doing a 12-week internship at The Education Law Center through the Philadelphia Youth Network WorkReady…See More

"You may not be her first, her last, or her only. She loved before she may love again. But if she loves you now, what else matters? She's not perfect - you aren't either, and the two of you may never be perfect together but if she can make you laugh, cause you to think twice, and admit to being human and making mistakes, hold onto her and give her the most you can. She may not be thinking about you every second of the day, but she will give you a part of her that she knows you can break - her… Continue
