Event Description

Dear PA School Talk Readers,

On behalf of Drexel Student Council for Exceptional Children (DSCEC), I would like to invite you, your colleagues, and parents of special needs children in the Philadelphia area to The Pennsylvania Office of Dispute Resolution’s “Creating Agreement in Special Education: Conflict Resolution Training for Parents and Educators” Workshop sponsored by DSCEC, School of Education, Drexel University. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, February 29th, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at MacAllister Hall, 6th Floor, Sky View Room, Drexel University, 3250 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA. Although there is no registration fee for this workshop, registration is required. Participants may take part in the workshop virtually. Virtually attending participants through “Adobe Connect” will be sent the Adobe classroom link several days before the event, as well as a PDF of the PowerPoint documents. To register, please email drexelstudentcec@gmail.com by Sunday, February 19th, 2012.

About the Workshop:
Successfully resolving conflicts and communicating well throughout a child’s educational experience is more likely when everyone has developed the skills to do so. The Office of Dispute Resolution (ODR) has joined a national effort led by CADRE and the IDEA Partnership to build capacity for early dispute resolution by implementing Creating Agreement in Special Education: Conflict Resolution Training for Parents and Educators. The workshop includes skill-building sessions with interactive discussions based on relevant special education scenarios. The format follows a “hands-on” approach to instruction. Designed for a “mixed” audience of educators and parents, the program supports long-term conflict resolution success. Participants will learn a six-step resolution process to solve problems at a local level. Please kindly share this information regarding DSCEC’s upcoming workshop with your colleagues, parents of special needs children, and any other individuals who would benefit from the subject matter addressed in this workshop. I thank you in advance for your time, and I hope you can join us.

Sincerely,

Drexel Student Council for Exceptional Children
